Location
We operate from a location in the Overberg Municipality District in the Western Cape.
All our holiday camps are mostly based at the SOS Outdoor Centre outside Villiersdorp, just over an hour’s drive away from Cape Town. The facility is surrounded with picturesque environmental beauty – offering magnificent views of the Theewaterskloof Dam.
Alternatively, we sometimes host our holiday camps at Buffalo Drift which is nestled on the Ruigtevlei Farm located 10 km outside the town of Gouda. The picturesque working farm is set on the banks of the Berg River only 1h30 minutes from Cape Town’s CBD.
Essential eligibility criteria
It is our goal to partner with parents/guardians to assess if Camp Genesis will be a positive experience for your camper before registration. Safe participation requires specific physical, mental, emotional, and social health abilities. Our staff is not specialized in serving those with special needs, including certain mental, emotional, social, or behavioral difficulties. However, decisions to accept a participant are made on an individual basis, considering each camper’s unique abilities.
Before enrolling, please contact us if your camper meets any of the following criteria:
- Has had any physical health concerns that could impact their time at camp (illnesses, broken bones, mobility issues, recent surgeries, etc.).
- Has had any mental health concerns in the last year, including anxiety, depression, etc.
- Has been diagnosed with any learning or behavioral disabilities (ODD, ADD, CD, etc.).
Please use the following criteria as a guide to assess your camper’s readiness for camp without additional accommodations:
- Can your camper take care of their own personal hygiene, including washing, brushing hair, and showering independently?
- Are they in good physical and emotional health?
- Can they handle aspects of camp life, such as living independently in a group setting and sharing a dormitory with others?
- Can they handle being in loud, busy environments? If not, do they have the tools to express their needs?
- When angry or upset, can they express their feelings calmly without becoming physical?
- Have they ever spent more than one night away from home?
We want to ensure that we are the right fit for your camper and family and that your camper can participate in our programs. If your camper currently takes any medication for mood or focus, please do not take them off it. Camp Genesis is a significant transition for everyone, and we do not want to change anything that could make it more challenging. We expect all campers to abide by our oath. Any camper whose behavior disrupts their fellow campers or program will be dismissed without a refund.
After registration, review, complete, and then double and triple-check the Parent’s Checklist below:

Transportation
Transportation to and from Camp is provided. Parents/guardians are not permitted to drive their children to Camp.
Camp Genesis contracts charter buses to transport campers from Cape Town to Camp. Our service provider is Eljosa Travel & Tours, and all buses are fitted with bucket seats and seatbelts. These buses are equipped with restrooms, air conditioning, and luggage compartments. All drivers have been background checked and are certified to transport school-age children.
Bus departure and return times will be communicated via email to families who have completed all forms, documents, and have a zero balance 14 days before their enrolled Camp session.
At departure, families will check in with the Registration Coordinators. If the camper has medication, it will be handed over to the staff at the designated table.
During the return, anyone picking up a camper must be listed as one of the camper’s emergency contacts and must be prepared to show ID. Failure to follow these procedures will result in significant wait time for both the person picking up and the camper.
Parents/guardians are responsible for providing transportation to the bus departure location. Please ensure that campers arrive on time, at least half an hour before departure. For any additional travel arrangements, such as flights to and from Cape Town, airport collection and transfer, or other transportation needs, please make special arrangements in advance with our registration coordinators. We cannot assist in the transport of any camper if arrangements have not been made with us within the required timeframe.
Additional Transportation
For an additional fee, Camp Genesis provides shuttle service from Cape Town International Airport: R250 each way or R500 round trip.
Please contact us to arrange details for airport shuttles. Flights coming into Cape Town need to arrive between 9 am and 12 pm on arrival days. Flights departing from Cape Town need to be scheduled to leave between 2 pm and 4 pm on departure days.
Camp scholarships
At Camp Genesis, we firmly believe that financial constraints should not hinder any camper from experiencing personal growth, leadership development, and an unforgettable time. Therefore, we offer both full and partial camp scholarships to parents who may not have the means to provide this valuable opportunity for their child.
To apply for a camp scholarship, parents must submit their applications at least two months before the commencement of the camp session. Please send an email to scholarships@campgenesis.co.za to begin the application process.
Upon receiving your email, we will provide the necessary documentation for completion, which will be thoroughly reviewed by our Camp Directors and the Genesis Leadership Foundation. Only successful applicants will be notified of their scholarship award.
Our aim is to ensure that every young individual has an equal chance to thrive and flourish at Camp Genesis, regardless of financial circumstances. If you or someone you know could benefit from this opportunity, we encourage you to take advantage of our camp scholarships and embark on a transformative journey with us.
